Tainted Treasure
On a rainy, cold spring morning in April, 1979, in Tsingtao harbor, the Swedish grain carrier, Otto P. Nurad, waits word for departure. Captain Karl Andress is told he cannot sail as a huge sand storm is now sweeping across the Shantung peninsula. There will be a 24 hour delay. Newly appointed mate, Harry Martin, former Marine Corps Corporal, is anxious to leave port. His shore leave the night before had turned into a deadly disaster. Delay may prove costly for him. The storm struck that night in all its fury. With morning came yet another problem for the Captain. Communist authorities demand he take four unwelcome American seamen with him. Begrudgingly, he agrees, and the Nurad departs Tsingtao. Harry’s growing suspicions about the four men prove right when they take armed control of the ship and throw Harry and the Captain overboard. An alert ship’s officer throws them a life raft. Under new command, Nurad heads deep into the South China Sea. Adrift in a small life raft, Harry and the Captain encounter a huge disabled yacht, and come to the rescue of a wounded billionaire and his young blonde wife. They had been stranded by Asian pirates. Harry and the Captain fix the disabled engine and they head for Manila. Destiny deals the four, and the crew of the Nurad, a strange hand as all is tested by wind, weather and the evils of mankind.
